A Mexican Food Oasis in Frederick Md

I Love Mexican Food!

I recently had the good fortune to visit a new Mexican restaurant in town named Los Toltecos, in the Frederick Shopping Center. From the outside, it looks like any of the other storefronts in the shopping center, but the big festive sign gives it away. I found out during my visit that “Los Toltecos” was the name of a warrior tribe in Central Mexico during the time of the Aztecs.

After heading inside, we were greeted by Alejandro, the general manager. He seemed excited to see me, like we were the only customer in the place, and continued that enthusiasm through the night, greeting everyone along with the rest of the staff with a very friendly and talkative demeanor.

Authentic!

As soon as we were seated a server with a smile on her face was there to get our drinks. She was very attentive and helpful in describing the menu. Chips and salsa arrived swiftly and gave me a chance to survey the decor. Warm wood tones and festive colors splashed around give the whole place a very friendly atmosphere.

Pineapple Margarita

Our drinks came fast and, even though the restaurant was pretty full, and we got our order in within ten minutes of sitting down.

I ordered a fajita with a mix of chicken and steak, and it was fantastic. Everything looked and tasted like it had been made right in the back, not like the frozen and ground stuff you find in your tortilla at other Mexican places.

It took me a while because of how huge the serving was, but I managed to devour all of it, and was extremely satisfied. Everyone else in my group was happy too. And on top of our food, the drinks were amazing. A horchata, a fresh beer, and a  frozen pineapple margarita (left) and frozen strawberry margarita completed our meals. Or so we thought.

The desserts were absolutely phenomenal. The chef took extra time to prepare the plates and it paid off. The fried ice cream, chimichanga cheesecake, and flan all were amazing and, even though I was stuffed, I managed to get a few bites of each.

a Mariachi band that plays once a month, and the bartenders are friendly and talented, too. As a lover of Mexican cuisine, I was very impressed and plan to become a frequent patron.
