Artomatic is Less than One Month Away
For the third time, Artomatic@Frederick will host one of the largest art playgrounds in the area here in Frederick. May 7 through June 10, at the old school board building on 115 and 117 East Church Street in historic downtown Frederick.
From this REALTOR®’s perspective, Artomatic@Frederick is an innovative and genius way to bring two worlds together…commercial real estate and the art community. The concept of Artomatic grew organically over the years, beginning in 1999 with a laundry facility in Manhattan, then coming to Washington D.C. in 2008.
Commercial buildings that are for sale are used to showcase artists and their work for a number of weeks. The collaboration allows thousands to tour the building and to see the work of hundreds of artists and performers from all over the mid-Atlantic region.
It’s a great way for emerging artists to be discovered, as well as established artists to be re-discovered. Unjuried events showcase creative work in visual art, performing art, music, dance and film.
It’s also a great way to showcase a commercial property to the public. Sometimes it takes some imagination to envision the usefulness of an old commercial property that may be functionally obsolete for most traditional commercial ventures. The school board offices at East Church Street have over 40,000 square feet over four floors, with a stage on the fourth floor.
Volunteers are an important part of the process. Anyone can take part by being a floor walker, a greeter, helping with demonstration setup and promotion, and helping in the Artomatic Store & Concession.
They are calling for artists, actors, directors, performers and literary artists. Check out the website for details.
