Downtown Frederick & Food Lovers
Downtown Frederick Maryland has become a Destination Location in the Mid-Atlantic Region for many reasons, not the least of which is the fantastic food served up in the many fine restaurants here. Now a local entrepreneur has combined her love for our charming historic city with its many unique culinary tastes to offer a one-of-a-kind way to experience Frederick…The Market Street Food Tour offered by Taste Frederick Food Tours. Downtown Frederick and food lovers are a perfect match.
Sarah Withers, Food Blogger at Food and Frederick, has been a Frederick fan and foodie for several years, writing about many of the wonderful downtown restaurants on her blog. After visiting New York City in January and taking a food tour, she immediately realized Frederick is the perfect place for such a venture. She wasted no time and got right to work on it. After a trip to “Food Tour Mecca” in Chicago in April, the business launched with the first tour in June 2012.
Not Just a Food Tour
What makes Taste Frederick Food Tours stand out from other food tours is not just their passion for food, but a love of historic downtown Frederick. This 3 hour tour includes several tastings from establishments on Market Street, as well as interesting stories and lore from local history, architecture and local foodie culture. Frederick is full of fascinating history from early America to the Civil War, and their tour guides love to share the stories of Frederick, including the quirks, the eccentrics, and the details. Tourists and locals both will enjoy the beautiful Frederick historic sites and learn about some of our history.
The tour includes 7 tastings along Market Street, from some favorite restaurants and specialty food shops. The progressive eating tour provides a satisfying lunch and food lovers will enjoy the variety of tastes and food styles. Some of the tastings are quintessential Frederick:
- Artisan Chocolates
- Freshly made ice cream
- Brick oven pizza
- Locally brewed beer
- Fresh Seafood, and more
Entrepreneurs Thrive in Frederick
What a great addition to Frederick’s small businesses! Like so many business owners I interview, Sarah comes from a family of entrepreneurs. Her father Duane has been in business for the last 15 years, and has been a great help and resource with his experience. I always wonder, do the values, work ethic and drive come from nature or nurture? I strongly suspect both!
The tour is $45 and includes all the tastings. Taste Frederick Food Tours also are happy to organize private group tours, and can accommodate from 6 people to as many as 16 people. Here’s a great idea for locals: you can buy a gift certificate for out-of-town friends. The tour season ends in December and starts again in March 2013.

Wishing Sarah much success…And always…be sure to support your Local Small Businesses!
