Frederick Humane Society Wins During First Saturday’s “Dog Days”

The Frederick County Humane Society is an advocate for animal welfare in our community.  The have affordable programs to meet the needs of animal owners, like their spay and neuter programs, assistance for veterinary emergencies, and the emergency pet food bank, providing more than 400 pounds of pet food per month to help keep pets out of the shelters and in loving homes.

The Humane Society kicks off its month-long Add-A-Bite for Animals campaign this Saturday, August 6th during “Dog Days”, Frederick’s First Saturday Celebration. They will be taking donations at Five Guys Burgers and Fries all day. Just drop your receipt in the marked boxes inside the restaurant and 10% of your bill will be donated to the Humane Society.  There will be several participating restaurants throughout the month, like Acacia, Brewer’s Alley, Dutch’s Daughter, Firestone’s, Griff’s Landing, Isabella’s, and Magoo’s. The Frederick Basket Company will be accepting donations of dry cat and dog food at their store throughout August, and donators will be eligible for a $75 gift card drawing at the end of the month! Many other downtown stores will be participating in the fundraising efforts for the hardworking folks at The Frederick County Humane Society.

Saturday’s “Dog Days” is one of the most popular celebrations in downtown Frederick. Its the perfect time to enjoy the Historic District with you furry family members. Several dog-friendly restaurants have patios open to pets.  Sign up your dog for the costume contest after 4 pm at Two Paws Up! on Carroll Street.  The winner will be announced at “Yappy Hour” at the Carroll Creek Amphitheater from 5-9 pm.

Pets will enjoy treats and pools and a mister to cool off at the amphitheater.  People will enjoy dogs performing agility feats behind the amphitheater.  There will be 11 musical groups performing throughout downtown, and an antique Volkeswagon show at Shab Row and Everedy Square.  Free trolley rides from 5:30 to 8:30.

Bring your entire family, including the furry ones out to enjoy what promises to be a fun day and support a great cause in the Frederick Humane Society.
