Anyone for some Duke Ellington?

The Frederick Symphony Orchestra will perform Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker at Frederick Community College in the Jack B. Kussmaul Theater, on December 9th at 3:00 pm and 3:30 pm. frederick symphony orchestra

“The second Masterworks concert’s feature composition, Duke Ellington’s The Nutcracker, draws inspiration from Russian composer Tchaikovsky’s two-act ballet, The Nutcracker, fusing tradition and modernity.”

The holiday concert will also include:

  • “Christmas Festival” and “Sleigh Ride” by award-winning composer Leroy Anderson
  • Ancient Airs and Dances Set I, by Italian composer Ottorino Respighi,
  • Holiday Pops Sing Along, by Bob Cerulli, with guest conductor Andrew Rosenfeld

The concert showcases principal flutist Paulela Burchill during “Suite Antique”, by British composer John Rutter…

and principal cellist Tom Mitchell during “Prayer from Jewish Life No. 1”, by American-Swiss composer Ernest Bloch.
