Frederick celebrated the 28th “In the Streets” Festival this weekend with crowds of people enjoying the wonderful weather and fun festivities. Each year the line-up of activities and entertainment gets bigger and better.
This year each block on Patrick and Market Streets was themed, with an Art block, a Sports block,
a History block, a Gaming block, a Health and Fitness, Public Safety, and a Kids block.
For the over 21 crowd, several events were held, including the “Up the Creek Party”, formally On the Deck, on the parking deck, with adult beverages and food, and the Beer and Wine Garden at the amphitheater.
People enjoyed paddleboat and Kayak rentals on Carroll Creek.
Musicians were out on every block of downtown Frederick.
The “In the Street” festival began in 1983 after Market Street had been closed for several months during the aftermath of a flood. Mayor Ron Young was among several who brainstormed the festival for the entire community to come downtown and enjoy the reopening of the businesses in the Historic District. Last year’s crowd numbered over 60,000 people. It’s a great time to get out “in the street” and experience all that downtown Frederick has to offer.
